About AFP'08 and TFP'08

About AFP About TFP
AFP is a series of international summer schools which aims to bring computer scientists, in particular young researchers and programmers, up to date with the latest advances in practical functional programming. The main focus of the school is on the interface between results presented at programming conferences and the programming in the real world. Read more... This is the sixth event in the series. The previous schools were held in Tartu (Estonia, 2004), Oxford (UK, 2002), Braga (Portugal, 1998), Olympia (Washington, USA, 1996), and Båstad (Sweden, 1995). AFP'08 is organized by the Software Technology department of the Radboud University Nijmegen and the Software Technology Group of Utrecht University. TFP is a series of international symposia dedicated to promoting new research directions related to the field of functional programming and to investigate the relationships of functional programming with other branches of computer science. It is designed to be a platform for novel and upcoming research, combined with a post-event refereeing process and a formal publication of selected papers as a book. In particular we encourage young researchers to present their work at TFP. In recognition of the extra effort spent in giving polished presentations the programme committee of TFP each year gives out a Best Student Paper award. Read more... This is the ninth event in the series. Previous symposia were held in New York (USA, 2007), Nottingham (England, 2006), Tallinn (Estonia, 2005), Munich (Germany, 2004), Edinburgh (Scotland, 2003), Stirling (Scotland, 2001), St. Andrews (Scotland, 2000), and Stirling (Scotland, 1999). TFP'08 is organized by the Department of Software Technology of the Radboud University Nijmegen.

The sixth AFP and the ninth TFP will be held subsequently during the second half of May in 2008 in The Netherlands, at Center Parcs "Het Heijderbos". For more information about the venue, see below. Both events have a strong focus at attracting young researchers, both in education (AFP) and novel research (TFP). The combination of AFP and TFP is an excellent opportunity to get introduced to advanced and state-of-art functional programming subjects. AFP features lectures given by experts in the field, and TFP solicits for high quality contributions. Authors can submit a paper to TFP in the form of an extended abstract or a full paper. For more details, please see the call for papers. Acceptance of contributions is based on these submissions. Accepted papers can be revised as many times as desired prior to the symposium. They will be distributed at the symposium, and made available on-line. All authors are invited to submit revised papers for the formal post-symposium proceedings. All submissions are judged by standard symposium criteria. Detailed author instructions can be found here.

About the venue

AFP'08 and TFP'08 will be held in The Netherlands, at Center Parcs "Het Heijderbos" which is a holiday resort in the woodlands near the city of Nijmegen. The arrangement includes accomodation, conference, breakfast-lunch-diner and proceedings (as well as speakers for AFP, and social event for TFP). You can check-in at the venue one day prior to each event and check-out one day after each event. See also the time-table of checking-in and checking-out. We accomodate participants in DeLuxe Cottages, each of which has three separate bed-rooms, shared bathroom, toilet, kitchen, and terrace. Each bed-room has two beds (one with 2-person bed; one with lits-jumeaux, one with bunk bed (1.90m)). Cottages will be shared by three participants. If you wish to reduce costs, you can choose to share a bedroom. The summer school and symposium will take place in the business center of the venue. Breakfast, lunch and diner is also arranged within the limits of the venue. Following the lead of TFP'07, this year's TFP also offers a social event, in which we will visit Nijmegen and have the conference diner at the river The Waal. The resort features, amongst others, a sub-tropical swimming pool, restaurants, shops, water sports lake, midget golf court, squash court, and outdoor and indoor tennis courts. In order to get a further impression, you can find some photo's of Center Parcs "Het Heijderbos".

Nijmegen is considered to be the oldest city of the Netherlands, being approximately 2000 years old. Nijmegen is located at the east border of the Netherlands, near Germany. Nijmegen can be reached easily from several airports such as Schiphol airport, Eindhoven airport, and Düsseldorf airport, as well as by train and car. Conveniently close to Center Parcs "Het Heijderbos" you will find airport Weeze in Germany. The venue Center Parcs "Het Heijderbos" can be reached from Nijmegen by train to Boxmeer (25 minutes). From there you will need to order a taxi. The venue can also be reached by car: parking is free for participants of AFP'08 and TFP'08. Detailed traveling information will be announced. You can check the time table for the train at the national railways site (added).
